Before the Father

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.  Heb. 4:12,13

An inner voice prods
"Kneel"

I protest
"But it's not comfortable"
"It's just not my style"

The gentle voice rebukes
"You know that's not the issue"

PRIDE
It rears its ugly head

Jesus knelt
He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but your be done." Luke 22:41, 42

Paul knelt
"For this reason I kneel before the Father from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name."  Eph. 3:14,15

All will kneel
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death —
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.   Phil. 2:5-11

To Kneel is
to humble oneself
to acknowledge the power of another
to show respect, reverence, and honor

Father, forgive me

"Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care."  Psalm 95:6,7

  1. This is beautiful!! Often at our family worship times, I find that I simply lean forward with folded hands (unless they are full of a baby!) for prayer. But my children get on their knees without hesitation. This post is a wonderful reminder to not only follow the example of my children, but of Peter and my Lord! Thank you! {Your family is beautiful!}

  2. Yes, kneeling is so humbling. I think the act just reminds us who He is and who we are.

  3. I love the way you brought all this together. I admit, I don't kneel yet the physical aspect of it is humbling and something we need to do.
