Help for the Trials

The first time I read As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur was over ten years ago.  There are phrases from the book that I have never forgotten and have often quoted.  One such phrase was, "Nothing could reach me unless it was filtered through his fingers of love."  That stuck with me and has helped me through struggles that have come my way.  I gave my copy of the book to a friend but many times had wished I'd kept it.  Recently I was excited to get another copy of the book and have the chance to read through it again.

As Silver Refined contains Biblical answers to handling life's disappointments.  Kay Arthur opens the book with a vivid description of a silversmith putting silver to the fire and bringing it to perfection.  She then compares the refining process to the work of God in our lives to mold us into his image through the trials and "heat" of this life. The remainder of the book outlines a Christian's response to the struggles of life.

Kay Arthur carefully outlines how to handle the Deadly D's:  disappointment, discouragement, dejection, despair, and demoralization.  What I appreciated was the understanding I felt from the author and not condemnation.   Yet she does not mince words when it comes to speaking the truth of God's Word.  Over and over the importance of knowing God and trusting his sovereignty is brought out.

The book challenged me to know the Bible and it's author so I can better withstand the trials of life.  It encouraged me to know that if I allow them to life's trials will only accomplish God's purpose in my life.  It blessed me to be able to recognize that I'm not alone in my struggle with life's disappointments.  I highly recommend this book regardless of your situation in life at the moment.  If you are not struggling, it will equip you for the trials to come.  If you are struggling, it will encourage you and give you the foundation of Christ and His Word to help you through.

Note:  I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.  Take a moment and rank my review.  I would appreciate it.  Thank you!
