Ephesians 1: 22-23 says, "And God placed all things under his (Christ's) feet and appointed him (Christ) to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way." As a Christian, I'm a member of his church. That means Christ is my head. He is my control center. When I am in tune with the head, things work well. When I am not, the church's witness to the world is hindered.
Many a time I struggle with truly letting Christ be head. I want control. Maybe it's the feeling of power that I feel when things are going as I planned. Man's power, however, is weak. It is inferior. It will fail. It will fall. I'm not sure why I would want to trust in it.
Looking at Ephesians 1:19-22 it is seen that ultimate power rests in God. God who is the Creator, God who raised Jesus from the dead (v. 20), God who placed Christ over all rulers and authorities (v. 21), and God who established Christ as the head of the church (v. 22) is the one whose power I want to have at work in my life.
From my accident, I learned how vulnerable my head can be. I don't want to depend on it. My body needs to be in submission to Christ Jesus. My true head is UP. May my eyes, heart and mind stay focused there.
