Everything Romance

Everything Romance is as it's subtitle states "a celebration of love for couples."  It is a delightful collection of quotes, short stories, poetry, trivia, recipes, date and gift ideas, and the do's and don'ts of romance.  It is a fun book to flip through and read.

The quotes were probably my favorite part of the book.  Many famous people's words about love are quoted throughout the book.  Mother Teresa said, "It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving."    Dr. Seuss said, "You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."  Albert Einstein said, "Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute and it seems like and hour; sit with a pretty woman for an hour and it seems like a minute.  That's relativity."  These are just a few of the quotes that will keep you turning pages to look for more.

The book contains nearly 20 short stories that will touch your heart.  I was excited to find two short stories by Cindy Sigler Dagnon whom is an acquaintance of mine and author of Hot Chocolate for Couples.  Also, interspersed throughout the book are poems by poets like Anne Bradstreet, Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The bits of trivia scattered amongst the pages of the book were intriguing.  Things like, "It's reported that more than ten thousand marriages a year now are directly traceable to romances that begin during coffee breaks."  Or did you know that the expression "tying the knot" dates to Roman times, when the bride wore a girdle that was tied in knots--which the groom had the fun of untying.  I was also astounded to learn that romance novels earn more money in the United States yearly than baseball!

Being a more practical person, I didn't find the recipes to be anything I would ever use.  From "Wanna Spawn? Salmon Sandwich" to "Cuddle-On-The-Couch Cinnamon-Sugar Popcorn" they seemed corny and unappealing.  However, some might find the titles cute and recipes fun to make.

Despite the recipes not appealing to me and a few stories and quotes I didn't agree with, Everything Romance would be a great book to set on your nightstand and read a few pages before bed.  Or perhaps a book to read together with your spouse while cuddled up on the couch.  It would spark some laughs and conversations.  What better way to add a little romance to your marriage.

So in honor of Valentine's Day and our marriages, I want to host a give-away of Everything Romance.  You can enter this give-away by liking Mother of Seven's facebook page (link found in right-hand column) or by becoming a follower of this blog (again see right hand column).  Then leave me a comment either on this blog post or on my Facebook page telling me you are now following and to enter you in the give-away.  If you already follow, then just leave me a comment either here or on Facebook.  The winner will be announced Tuesday, February 14th.

Note: I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. Take a moment and rank my review. I would appreciate it. Thank you!
