"You are My Sunshine"
My precious Kayt,
How well I remember the day you were born! It's hard to believe it was 15 years ago on February 17.
We arrived at the hospital about 12:45 p.m. on a Saturday morning. You were born by about 2:30 p.m. It was a quick labor and there was no time for an epidural. You were beautiful with dark hair and pretty skin. We were so thankful to have a little girl to go along with your big brother, Ryan.
There were colicky days your first few months. Your daddy would walk the floor with you between 8 and 11 each evening as you cried. He always sang you the song, "You are My Sunshine." Little did we know how you would grow up to bring so much sunshine into our lives.
As a toddler you were spunky and full of life. You always were expressive. You didn't cry. You had "sad drips." Lasagna was like eating "slugs with sauce on them." When you drooled in your sleep you said your mouth "was leaking." And all your imaginary friends were hard to keep up with. You had spiders under your bed that you had conversations with. Your toes took on human form and talked to each other. Even a broken pencil lead came to life in your little hands.
Before long it was time for school. Reading came quickly for you, but how you hated math. Sitting and doing your seat work was always a challenge because you would be lost in some imaginary world.
Your one dream was to have a sister. I remember night after night you would pray and ask God for a sister. I tried to tell you how three brothers were a good thing, but you remained unconvinced. When you were 10 years old, your prayers were answered when we adopted Amber. Of course, she came with two more brothers but you graciously accepted them as well.
We have watched you over the past fifteen years bloom into a beautiful young lady. You have a big heart that loves deeply. Your love for the Lord causes you to selflessly love all those whom your life touches. God has plans for you. I'm excited to see what his plan is for your life.
Keep on loving, Keep on singing, Keep on writing. God's sunshine is radiating from your life.
Love you baby girl! Happy Birthday!
